Keeping worms in substrate....

Hey everyone! Good to see that the Forum has really taken off. Lots of good threads to read and learn from.

Kadesh and Obi are loving the dirt substrate. A much better choice then the Jungle Bark I was using before. Thanks to everyone for motivating me to make the switch. I am finding it dries out rather quicker than I would like-would it be okay to add moss to it just to retain moisture?

My real question however is this: would it be okay to keep two or three earthworms in the substrate with each frog? Just to provide them with a bit more natural hunting agenda and environment. I am just worried that if the worms die, they could cause a bacteria bloom that would harm my frogs. Has anyone tried this before? I know one worm escaped from Kadesh and is roaming around in there. He has gone rooting for it but whether he has caught it yet I'm not sure. Thanks for any info and or opinions. Great to see some more African Bullfrog owners in the Forum. Thanks. I have had earthworms live a month or two in one of my tanks. No problem.

It's OK. Different kinds of earthworms will live for different durations. The small redworms will usually live indefinitely, as will any of the composting worms.

Thanks guys. I won't worry too much if one or two should escape then. The larger earthworms tend to liquify (we won't discuss the smell!) in warmer temperatures, so I won't let too many make a break for it. Cheers!
