    Default tomato frog activity

about 1 month ago i bought a baby tomato frog. It does not seem to move at all. It is growing though and it looks healthy. How much does a normal tomato frog move around? Are males more active then females ? As adults, how much do they move around? Is a 10 gal long aquarium big enough for an adult?

Tomato Frogs are pretty much sedentary; much like Pacman frogs.

it seems a 10 gal would be easier for an adult to grab crix walking by, anything bigger would not benefit the frog?

Mine's in a 20G long tank, but he sits in one corner burrowed down all the time. I've got about 3 inches of compost dirt mixed with coconut fiber covered in moss. His usual spot is underneath the big clump of moss in the background. (For this pic I had enticed him out with an earthworm and he's all puffed up from being disturbed with camera and lights.)

It's actually pretty funny when I release crickets in his cage I just see the clump of moss moving up and down as he gobbles em up.

I have never seen 1 bit of activity from my frog, the crix hop right by him, but it is getting fat. Funny thing, last night at 3 am i shone a flashlight in the cage and caught it out and about! First time i ve caught activity even though i m up often at night. This a m it s right back in it s normal spot . lol.

I've had my tomato for about a week now. He's moved around on some nights, but not too often. From what I can gather it's perfectly normal for these frogs to bury themselves for days on end without moving. They don't stalk their prey, they wait for them to come towards them. I have found though, that my frog moved around more when I added more hiding spots in his tank. Seems they have less of a need to bury if they can hide under half logs or plants.
