Default Hello from Dallas! I need help with a frog/toad ID

Hello. I just joined to learn more about frogs and toads. My 7-year-old son scooped up a few tadpoles from a local creek, and has successfully raised one into a frog (or toad). I could sure use some help identifying what type of frog or toad this is, to help determine if this is suitable for my son to continue raising as a pet. I have posted a few pics. Thanks in advance for your help and advice.

Is most definitely a young juvenile Bufo sp. (toad) Looking at the trademark gold and red eyes, I would vote for Bufo nebulifer, but the patterning on the legs counteracts that diagnosis. The possibility of Bufo americanus ssp is in there too. I am a bit of a novice at juvie toad identification.
Watching FrogTV because it is better when someone else has to maintain the enclosure!

Maybe John can ID it. He did spend a lot of time herping in that part of the country.

In the meantime, check out the "Toad Basic Care" article. There is a link to it on the left-hand side of this and every page.

The arrow mark on the back makes me think Bufo nebulifer (formerly known as Bufo valliceps, the Gulf Coast Toad, now considered a separate species). Give it a few weeks and it should become distinctly more angular. The only other Bufo species in the area that looks even vaguely like that is Bufo woodhousii but it's not one of those and I've only seen them north of Dallas from Denton or so northwards. Allegedly they are present further south but I've not seen them.
