Default Can olive oil harm my frogs?

    Hello everyone!

So, ill start from step one.

I have 3 Australian Green Tree Frogs and i want to begin to bowl feed them. I currently tong feed them crickets but i have a roach colony that is up and running and want to feed them the roaches.

But, my only problem is that the roaches can climb and don't stay in the feeding bowl.

So, someone told me i could try smearing olive oil around the sides of the bowl. It works but im not sure if the frog comes in contact of the olive oil, it could harm them.

So, can olive oil harm my frogs?

You started a new thread? I wouldn't use ANY oil with frogs. Oil loves to spread rapidly on most surfaces, including frog skin. And amphibs ingest air and water through their skin.
Same reasoning as to why you must rinse oils from your hands before handling. I wouldn't risk it. I don't think olive oil will poison them, but definatly hinder them.

i couldnt agree more with morgan. the only times I have heard of people using olive oil is with impaction problems for leopard geckos. I wouldnt put oil or vaseline but try packing tape. I used packing tape to keep my crickets from climbing out or use glass

i would like to use crickets but i have a colony of roaches going and i would prefer to use them. I may have to cut a few of their little legs off... Still, ill use
the crickets i have left and during that time, ill continue to do research.

    Anyways, thanks guys!
