How big is he? If he is a baby give him lots of protein so he can grow! they like all sorts! fish would be the most natural for them and are they a good pet? Id say once they get big they're not very practical..

Ok so I had an alligator snapper for 2 years before I had to give him to a friend cause I was moving they can make great pets but there are a few thing you have to take into consideration. 1-size both common and alligators get HUGE, alligator get bigger but both get big 2- that jaw had POWER, I knew a Japanese guy who lost his whole left hand to his pet alligator snapper so be careful. 3- they dont do much, there alot of fun to watch eat but besides that they just sit there for long periods of time. That's why I went with the alligator snapper cause at least you can watch there little pink lure wiggle around in there mouths. As for feeding mine would have never gone near pellets, I feed mine fish, crabs and cray fish. You can also feed snails, I used to buy koopa, that was his name, a large crab about every other month as a treat he loved it and would chase them around his tank until he got em. That was the only time he ever moved a lot. good luck with you turtle

    DUN DUN DUN!!!

I would agree that having a snapping turtle would be cool, but not safe. Most people end up dumping them in lakes and rivers when they become too big.
I do not mean to say that you will do this as well, but this is definitely something to think about.
you may have to dedicate a good portion of your house or backyard for a large tank.

Ok so I agree that you have to be prepared to have a large pond, not tank, take into consideration that the alligator snapper shell can reach 3 ft. then take into account that there tail is as long as there shell (= 6ft) + the size of there head at that size can be a 1ft+ so your looking at a 7+ft turtle thats big and they can attain a weight of 250+lbs.
Ok amphiboy- revel yourself... how do you "know me"? where are you from?
