I have a pair of adult giant african bullfogs they are in a 3 foot viv with about two three inches of water in it , this morning when i got up my female was swollen up to about double the size and is not moving much , iv taken her out of the water and placed her on her rock but she still hasnt moved or reduced in size if anyone could help i would be very grateful , cheers
has she pooped recently?
not noticed , do you think it could be because she is in the water ? i normally have them in eco earth but was told to change it to couple inch of water to start breeding , shes just not moving i can flip her upside down and wont even move a leg but is breathing ok , confused
dont flip her upsidedown, let her be until we have an idea of whats happening
ok no worries , i only flipped her because i thought she was dead , wait 2 secs she has just done the biggest piss i have ever seen lol and is starting to go back to normal size , do you think i should get rid of the water ? im going to get some more mice tomorrow give her really good feed , dont want to loose her had them for 6-7 years
her back end has gone back to normal , front still quite swollen
If you don't have a circulation pump and water filtered as well as doing frequent water changes they will get Toxing Out Syndrome from ammonia buildup in the water. I would switch back to Eco Earth. and just use a shallow water source. Separate the sick frog from the others and place her in a hospital tank. Swelling can be an internal bacterial infection. You might want to take her to a vet.
yer she took biggest wee ever seen , front end still quiet swollen started moving a little , going get eco earth tomorrow and put the tank back , the tank does have a filter and only set the tank up few days ago with the water and the filter , so you think eco earth and cat tray for water ?
thanks guys for all your help ill keep you posted , fingers crossed life will go back to normal tomorrow
my fat boy , lol didnt know how to flip (noob)
cheers dude yer had him a few years now , dont suppose you know anything about dart frogs was thinking about getting a setup with plants and bits but wanted a couple of species in the viv to start breeding , do you know if they can be mixed and what are the hardiest ones to start with
no worries thanks again for help shes looking alot better , really odd what happened , ok dont suppose you know about breeding giants at all , been told its nearly impossible but was also told to wait few years , waited put em in water with rain chamber but all this happened, any ideas dude
Most believe females won't lay due to the lack of bariatric pressure changes that come with the raining seasons we can't duplicate most people that do breed use hormone injections to make the female lay once she's hit sexual maturity
