Default Newbie: set-up for adult Western Toad?

Hello! I have a new adult Western Toad named Trevor. He is in a 10g aquarium with damp sphagnum moss, a water dish, a clay pot hide, and some rocks and plastic plant leaves. I've only had him about a week and have tried feeding him pill bugs, beetles, and earthworms. He ate an earthworm today but doesn't seem to want to eat when I put him in a separate bin for feeding. He is only interested in food when he's in his tank. I'm worried he will ingest the sphagnum moss along with the worms even though I try to set them on the rocks. I think I will pick up some large crickets tomorrow and try those.

He doesn't move very fast so should I pull off the crickets' back legs? Is the sphagnum moss okay for me to keep him on? Are there better substrates?

How often should I be feeding him and how often should I dust his food? Any recommendations for good supplements to dust with?

I want to make sure he stays happy and healthy! Thanks for putting up with all my newbie questions (:

Update: He ate two more nightcrawlers tonight from tongs. I made sure he didn't get any moss in his mouth. Should I try to offer him some more worms if he's willing to eat them? This is the first time he's eaten all week.

Toads usually prefer dryer conditions. If you want a damp substrate that is safe for him to ingest go with Eco Earth Coconut Fiber(not husk). If he ingest some of the Eco Earth he can easily pass it.

Okay that sounds good. I wasn't sure exactly how dry or damp Western Toads like their environment to be but I'll pick up some Eco Earth Coconut Fiber and maybe I should leave the substrate dry but mist every day and provide a water bowl? Or should I continue to dampen the substrate a bit?

Just make it damp. You can make it a little more moist on the cool side where the water dish is.
