I decided to make my first actual background for my White's treefrogs, Fremont and Rio. I'm afraid I forgot to take build pics, but I can upload a picture of the finished product! I made the background out of pure clay cat litter and Eco Earth, then slathered a layer onto the back of the tank, then I scuplted some ridges and bumps and stuff, THEN I patted some more Eco Earth onto the moist sculpted clay and stuff. It actually looks really nice, and I'll upload some pics when I feel like it!

Can we see some pics
I'm afraid not. I forgot to take pictures, and I noticed it starting to dry and crack so I took it down to avoid anything bad happening.

clay, along with eco earth, is very absorbant and can harbor a lot of fungus and mold. I cannot imagine how hard this will be to clean. I would only think to suggest this idea if you have a dessert animal, but even then I would be worried about the animal ingesting the cat litter.
where did you see this idea from?
I've seen clay litter used before, but like mentioned, it was for Uromastyx(desert hole Liz).
I've used spray foam with coconut fiber pressed in before it cured.

Clay backgrounds are tricky and from what I have read should be used in humid environments because the clay has to have constant moisture to avoid it from cracking. I started one of these background but tossed it because if it drys out completely I heard it will start crumbling and fall apart.
