I recently bought some plants at a nursery for my Colorado River Toads, but I'm worried about there being potential diseases in them. Are my fears justified?
Well, first we have to know what you bought and what you mean by diseases in the plants
Bought some Scottish Moss and some Creeping Thyme.
I mean could they carry diseases such as Chytrid.
Here is some info on chytrid and BD Chytrid Fungus « Amphibian Ark
To be extra safe I would disinfect the plant.
I have used scottish moss before in my terrariums. Most nurseries are pretty sterile. I would only worry if you got wild plants from a swamp or marshy area. If you have a bullfrog or any burrowing frog than keep the moss in a container. I tried moss and my frog killed the moss by burrowing in the roots. Plus the perlite and fertilizers can cause problems. Double check and make sure the thyme is ok. Most aromatic plants may irritate frogs.
Here is a good webiste that explains how to sterilize plants and other vivarium decor
