Unfortunately the frog has died. It was not breathing this morning when I went to check on it. The vet recommended that I ditch everything that is in the cage, clean it and start over before putting the healthy frog back in. I'm guessing everyone here would agree? Is there any way to save the wood pieces?

Also what about the hydroton (clayballs) that are under the screen and soil? Can I clean those and re use?

First i would like to say im very sorry for your loss. You did everything you could and I respect that.

as for throwing everything away. im sure people would have different opinions. the vet didnt find any parasites right?

i would get new hydroton just because a bag of it isnt that expensive. you might be able to wash them off though. they hold water so idk if infected water couldve got inside... i would just throw them away.

anyways. driftwood. i would do your best to sanatize and clean. boiling, baking, scrubbing, etc. Fake plants...i would clean them and keep them. Unless your frog had a bacterial infetion or something. idk. i dont want to tell you wrong information.

I had two do the upside down thing and then they passed within 24-48 hours after not being able to right themselves. I ditched EVERYTHING, plants & wood pieces just to be safe. Sorry for your loss!!!

On a second note, to push the prolapse back into the body is not a recommended cause of action. It can become infected through contact with the hand, or placed back in the wrong arrangement. Sorry for your loss; I'm hoping my frogs are getting better too.

    Do restart the vivarium.

Thanks for all of your sympathy. I ditched everything and used the 10% bleach method to clean the terrarium, then rinsed the bejesus out of it. There is one piece of wood that I am planning on saving, but I'm going use it for a future build and only after I have used every available method to sterilize it. I built up a new terrarium for the healthy frog, he is not showing any symptoms to date, and he is eating and pooping normally so hopefully he is in the clear! I omitted the moss, and added some Indian almond leaves that I had left over from my newest addition (Santa Isabel tadpoles). I was religious about spot cleaning and water changing before but now I will be a nazi about it.

I have also considered feeding in a separate enclosure, so that there are not any dead crickets laying around and hopefully the frog will do its business while still in the feeding tank to cut down on waste in the terrarium. Any opinions on that?
