Default What am I doing wrong?

First I want to thank everyone for all the help with Bella and her sore toes. Have had her for 2 weeks tomorrow and the left foot is near normal. The right still ?. What I'm not sure about now is why she hides all the time. I put her in her new home Wen and I take her out to feed her and put her back. She hurries to a corner and as far as I can tell stays there. Only 1 time have I found a stool in her new terarium. She does go when I have her in a smaller one to feed her. She seems to like to soak but only if I encourage her in the water then stays for hours and I encourage her out. For anyone not familiar with Bella she was-is wild and injured. Is she sick also. Maybe parasites? Am I ever going to get this figured out without yelling "Help" every other day?? What am I doing wrong?

Take her to a vet if you can. They can treat and test for any parasites if anything. Good luck

another route you can go is to email dr frye. maybe should of done that a while back. i called local vets in my area and they want me to bring both my frogs in. which is like $45 per frog. then fecal examinations are an extra $20. not counting other fees they will hit me with once im there. and the added stress on the frogs. Dr frye can check for parasites and its only $18 plus whatever you pay to get it shipped to him.

Since/if your frog needs immediate attention it would be best to take it to the vet. But if you cant afford it or something Dr Frye is your second best choice. He also is the one who helped me with my frog foot problem. So shooting him an email and letting him know all the details would probably be a good idea. He saved my frog and plenty of other peoples frog. In my opinion, i would trust him before i trust some of the vets in my area.

    Edit:

The cost is $18 per group of frogs housed together. Collect 3-5 feces from each group of frogs and put them in a small air-tight container with a small amount of moist paper towel to keep them from drying out. Label each tank’s sample and send them ASAP to 517 West Main St, Milan MI 48160. Try to aim for a Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday delivery. We are closed Wednesdays and Sundays, and the hospital closes on Saturdays before mail arrives. Next day delivery is ideal, but 2-day will work. You can include a check, call my hospital to pre-pay via credit card at 734-439-2273, or send me funds through Pay-Pal at dr.frye.vetatmilan@gmail.com . Thanks.

email from him i just got a couple days ago. im about to send my fecals in hopefully this weekend.

The closesd vet to me that treats frogs is about 80 mi away near Indy and due to disability I no longer drive any distance. Just sent detailed msg to Dr. Frye. Thanks for the link to his email and keep your fingers crossed.

    Hi Marylou,
You might consider beginning to train Bella to eat out of a bowl? Moving forward, it would reduce all the handling!!!!!
Since she is wild caught she may be very stressed !
The bowl should be clear glass w/ at least a 3"sides. ( Like a small pyrex type)
The crickets cannot climb out. Count what you put in each night to keep track.
Put crickets in her bowl every night ---for now. Dust w/ vits and calcium according to directions for her species.
However, continue to feed her the usual way until she gets the hang of the bowl.
Leave her in a quiet, and completely dark area after putting her food in the bowl. No peaking !!!!!!!
I would let her stay in her water....( soaking water should be de-chlorinated ONLY ).
Try not to fuss w/ her too much !
Handle or touch her only when absolutely necessary.

Lynn, thank you so very much for the advise. I truely am trying to do what is right but on my own I have no idea where to begin. I never would have guessed you could feed a frog out of a bowl. About how tall should the bowl be? I did sent an email to Dr Frye. Here is his response.
"By law, I am supposed to tell you to return the frog to the wild. Michigan state law forbids me from treating wild caught indiginous species, and I truly believe that she is very stressed. "
I do understand what the issue is there although I am in Indiana but that doesn't help Bella. I will do everything you said and anything else you can think of please, please let me know. Of all things I would never want to cause her harm. I have been in tears over this for 2 weeks now. Just want her to get better. thanks again.

I would return her to the wild. She may not be sick with something. She maybe extremely stressed where she will no longer eat. Sometimes they do just die because of that sweetie. I am sorry this is happening and wish you and your frog the best but I would also consider the fact you can't take it to a vet to be treated at all.

Thanks. You seem like such a soft heart and I'm so sorry about your little one. All I wanted to do was help her to heal her toes and my intentions were to return her. If I could nurse her through another week maybe that would be enough. Her left foot seems to have totally healed. Have you seen the pics I posted? On page 2 about halfway down "sore looking toes". I would love your thoughts on the toes (although better than they were not so good yet) Do you think if I turn here loose with her foot like it is she'll be ok?
p.s. for now she is eating good
