Hi there, those are my 2 little guys, but they are fatter now 4 days after a pic was taken
a have a feeding question, in a store where I got them I was told that they were just dumping some crickets in a tank at night, nobody really counted how many and there were 7 frogs in a tank. how much is ok to give to them? first I thought that 3-4 for one should be fine, they are 2 times smaller then my pixie ( still a baby) and usually it is full after 5 crickets.
So 2 days ago I tried to thong and hand feeding, it seemed so much funso one ate 4 crickets like that, but the other one refused, so I dumped some more to terrarium. so the one, that I fed, jumped and ate 2 more, so I dumped more for the other guy, all crickets were gone in the morning. I think in total there were at least 12 crickets with those that I saw one of them ate. Both frogs were round in the morning and seemed to be very happy
so how many is normal? and how frequently? I don't want for them to be overweight, but I want them to to starve eitherright now I'm feeding them every other day.
is there is anything else they might eat?
I think feeding them every other day is fine. As for how much I would feed them what the two of them can eat in 15 minutes. You can try to tong feed wax worms as treat and night crawlers are really good food items for them. I'm sure someone with more experience will add more. Hope this helps
night crawlers for waxys???? wow, really? never thought about it, will it even fit in their tummies? what about silkworms and all kinds of different worms?
i can't really see how much will they eat in 15 min, I just tried to thong /hand feed one of them and saw it jumping to catch some more, but another refused, and was still sleeping, so I don't know who ate those crickets and how many, but as I said both were round and happy in the morning and no sign of crickets in a tank. Usually they still sleeping when I got to bed.
I feed all my frogs bits of nightcrawlers. You have to cut the worms to an appropriate size I suggest the distance between the frog's eyes. Earthworms/nightcrawlers are a great staple diets for your frogs. I also feed mine other worms like silk worms, butterworms, and horned worms, but only as treats and to bring them more variety to their diet.
I have one Waxy Monkey Tree Frog, but he doesn't seem to eat much. I feed him 4-5 large crickets sometimes every other day if the crickets are all gone or every two days. I also feed my Waxy Turk Roaches as Roaches are a very good staple for frogs. Butterworms, waxworms, hornworms, etc. should only be fed sparingly as a treat as they are full of fat and not a great staple.
thank you for replies, i watched yesterday, one ate 5, the other 7 crickets at the spot and then i dumped a few more to the tank for night, all were gone in the morning, i think I'll stick with 10 for both the every other day and see how it goes. cos right now each of them eat more then my 3 month old pixie, kind of doesn't seem right![]()
