Last night I found this frog sitting next to a pond.
I have 5 gray tree frogs as pets, but I don't know much about any other kinds of frogs. I would like to know what kinds they are for sure.
Then today my stepdad found this little guy while mowing the lawn.
It seems more like a tree frog since he can kind of climb up the side of the container I put him in, but he has a back leg that doesn't work very well. He is so little, but he has a dark throat and I know with gray tree frogs that means they are males, because they chirp. I haven't heard this one make any noise yet, so I'm not sure if he chirps or not. Anybody know what kind of frogs they are?
I live in southeaster MN, if that will help with identifying them.
the 1st is a American bull frog they are awesome i love to hear them croak they get quite big but i don't know for sure their requirements the second i think is a pickerel frog but i could be wrong (a lot like a leopard frog)
Thanks, I had no idea that was a bullfrog. I thought it was too small to be a bullfrog, but I guess they aren't huge right away . I think I figured out the second one is a western chorus frog. I let the bullfrog go, but I might keep the chorus frog. He has a bad back leg and I will feel bad letting him go.
Do you plan on returning them back to mother nature?
I returned the bullfrog the same night I found him. The chorus frog has a bad leg that just hangs there he can't move around very well at all. My stepdad found him while mowing so he may have been injured then, or maybe he already was. He was not near any water and it was the middle of a sunny day and 90 degrees. I raise crickets for my other treefrogs so I would have plenty of small crickets for him. I have him in a temporary enclosure now, but I might make a terrarium for him if I decide to keep him. My other treefrogs I saved from our swimming pool as tadpoles last year. I raised 49 tadpoles to froglets and let all but 5 go.
Good for you! I am glad you are going to be nursing him back to health! Keep us posted! Good Luck!
