I got a pair of FBTs today, I think they are male and female because one chirps and the other one is rather large compared to him.
Also, my chirping male seems to have an eye with no pupil. I can't say if he's blind in that eye but he did eat for me so it's safe to say he's not totally blind if he is. I didn't notice the pupil (or rather lack of) until I got them home and into their tank. Here are some pictures (the quality is kind of bad since It's hard to macro while trying to keep the camera dry lol), it's the one on the left (his right):
Now here's a general picture of the male (I caught this right as the suspected female went to jump):
And a picture of the suspected female:
I think I'm going to name the male Roux (pronounced roo) and the poss. female Roxy
Right now they're chilling on top of the filter, they climbed the plant in the corner that covered the filter (I took it out for the picture). I think I am already in love![]()
Does anyone have any ideas why he has no pupil? It worries me a little but he seems rather active and healthy otherwise.
EDIT: here is a better picture of the eye (I'm not squeezing him, just using my thumb to block him from moving too much, and I used gloves because I'm OCD lol):

Probably just a mutation. If he's eating and moving around fine, I wouldn't worry about it. Not much a vet would be able to do about it, and it doesn't seem like it's harming him at all. You've got a unique fellow there![]()
Oh ok, I figured it was just a defect, thank you for clarifying for me![]()
He looks pretty scary in your first photo. LOL
Like Finnybird said, if he is happy and healthy, then there is nothing to worry about.
Good luck with your little fella
Could be a mutation or possibly a scar from a previous injury or infection? Hard to tell.
