Default Water in bottom of enclosure

I am considering upgrading my whites treefrog to a tall terrarium (hes in a standard right now) and I was wondering how they do with water as a the "substrate" in their enclosure. I use epiphytes for plants, so I have no need for soil, and I use a lot of ledge systems for the frog. So now comes the questions:

1.) Can a whites frog be happy with water and a filter in the bottom of a tall tank.

2.) if one is true, than is it possible to have fish in the water. (Docile species of course,) maybe boesmans rainbow fish since they also come from Australia, or even just a betta and a couple females since the water wouldn't be that deep.

Have you checked out the care sheet for WTF's? Water is a good option, says the care sheet. As for the fish...from what I have read the fish could introduce unwanted things into the tank. Good Luck

If using water as the bottom of your tank vise substrate, keep in mind the water should be no deeper than the frogs chin when sitting. They are not the best swimmers and would need plenty of places to exit the water. Since they are not the most graceful at feeding and jumping around the tank you'll find they will be landing often in the water :-)

If your using this area as to where they will soak, needed for shedding and absorbing moisture through the skin is how they drink, you will also need to change the water often since they need the minerals the water provides.

Well thank y'all, I guess I will just keep using the substrate and a large pond feature. I don't want to endanger my frog with fish, or the fish with my frog. I'll just use real soil this time and make an actual terrarium instead of a cocofiber and epiphytes terrarium. I don't know if he will care that much, but I will enjoy the new plants

I'm sure the frog will enjoy any plants it can climb on :-)

My WTFs were destructive to plants so choose wisely :-) I even had them split a large Aloe plant right down the middle when they decided to each perch on a different part of the plant. My WTFs loved the large tiger striped bromeliad and would slide down into it to sleep. It also provided strong leaves for them to climb around on. Snake plant is also another great choice since the plant also holds weight well.

Hey Don, I'm having trouble finding more subjects on this topic so I'm hoping you'll see this bump.

I have been planning on doing a 35 gallon hexagon with a "water substrate". Ideally, I would like to keep killifish in the aquatic part of the tank. I was thinking about covering maybe 1/3 to 1/2 of the aquatic part with flat surface.

Bad idea? good idea? flush out the idea more?
