Don't Hate Me...

My sister went out to the woods and came back with this tiny, maybe ¼ inch long.. she knows nothing about frogs. She put it in a fish bowl with some dirt, sticks, leaves and a little tin foil water bowl... this bowl was such a mess... she put in a few dead bugs from outside and she said he has been eating them.. but I really don't know.. anyways, today I started taking care of him and I'm trying to make the best habitat I can out of this fish bowl. My sister says I can have him.

I cleaned out the bowl completely. I put in 1 inch of gravel, filled up to the gravel with dechlorinated water, then put about ½ inch of dirt. I put some grass in, a stick, a little plastic cap full of water, a leaf, and some freeze dried bloodworms, don't know if he will eat those. I poured a little bit of water over everything so its a bit damp. Then I put a little desktop lamp over the top of the bowl so some light and heat gets in, and keeps it a little humid. He is now just hopping around and exploring his bowl. She has had him for about 8 days now. Here are some pictures.

He looks awfully little. Im doubting he'll eat non-moving food. I would feed him flightless fruitflies or springtails. I think I would let him go and maybe get her some firebelly toads or other energetic frog that will be easier to care for...?

I didn't even want a frog, but since my sister was taking horrible care of him I'm just trying to do a better job. Where should I release him? I'm afraid he doesn't have any survival instincts and will die?

I would release him wherever she found him. You'd be surprised how their instincts kick right in. Tiny wild caught babies are tougher to care for than captive bred frogs and toad.

Just tell her wild froggies do better in the wild and that they sometimes die when we take them from their homes.

Do you have any frogs of your own? We love frogs . They're all so different. If not, I bet you'd love one. Best thing to do is research which you'd like best by their general characteristics and overall behaviors, see what their care would entail, and what kind of home you could or would like to provide for them. There is a great article here about which frog is for you. I forget the exact total, but it's a great article. Might want to see if you can find it. I'm not sure how to link it from my phone, which I'm on.

No I don't have any frogs. I have 3 dogs, 2 cats, two goldfish, and I didn't realize this.. I have an african dwarf frog in my fish tank... -.-.
