    Talking Hello!

    Hi everyone.
    my name is Beca.
I've joined this forum to pick brains and to look at terrarium And paludarium set ups.
Ive never kept a frog before and after an unfortunate accident with my lawnmower and a small common froglet I now have a 3 legged one living happily in a tank in my spare room.
He(she?) has been taking aphids dusted with calcium powder and swimming squinty in a reptile bowl of rainwater. When hopping he falls over and usually ends up flipped on his back. Releasing him into the garden isn't an option as he really wouldn't last long
so..ummm that's what's happening with lucky frank and myself just now.
    So hello!

    Welcome!

Wow, that's a story! Good for you for saving the frog. It must have been horrible when you got him with your lawnmower. And you're right, he most likely would not have survived if you had just let him go. How long ago did the accident happen?

He should eventually get used to only having three legs and not be flipping over anymore. Did he lose a back leg or front? You'll have to post pictures sometime when he's all better and feels like having his photo taken. Hopefully he doesn't get any infections where he was injured.

    Hope you enjoy the site.

I don’t know if frogs can grow body parts back, the way salamanders can. Hopefully so, and then it could have more of a fighting chance in the wild.

    Hi
it was his back leg he lost. It's just a nub at the moment, several people have suggested it may grow back.
He seems to have become fairly "tame" very quickly which is a worry for releasing him again. He recognises the long stick I use to put food in front of him and when I open the lid to feed him he sits up and looks around for food.
*edit* I meant to say, it's coming up for a fortnight since his accident and his leg is fully healed. Yay!
