Im giving my pyxie frog about the size of a half dollar at the moment, 4 subadult crickets every day, is this enough, is it too much? i read on the caresheet here that it should eat as much as it can in 15 minutes, but i am the kind of person that wants to know an exact or estimate amount as i fear i may overfeed the little guy. he/she is my pride and joy right now!
actually you cant really over feed....most people have his misconception that frogs and reptiles are like fish and will eat themselves sick actually most will stop when full and it all depends on the frog just like people some can eat more than others i can tell you mine ate anywhere between 6-10 medium crickets when he was that size since then he eats mainly night crawlers (3-5 a day) so it kinda depends on the frog everyone will be different the main thing to remember is he'll stop when he's full.
Thank you for the information. I just gave the lil guy 2 more crickets and a white cloud mountain minnow I think he has had enough for today
he'll stop when he gets full just kinda ignore the food
And should I do this everyday what's the best feeding schedule
for a baby feed every day they need the protein at the rate that the grow its very important to keep from developing joint/muscle problems dust crickets 1-3 times a week untill they are a juvi (7-8 months old) daily feeding is very important for proper growth unlike reptiles they dont cool down bc of heating pads and night lights lol
I feed my pixie babies earth worms as a 100% staple until they get to be about the size of a softball. I normally buy like 10-15 containers from walmart at a time ( in the fishing section). At half dollar size he shud be able to take 2-3 earth worms a day. But he should always be offered until he stops eating like deac mentioned
Yea mines almost baseball sized and eats 5-6 a day already lol

I've been feeding mine about 6-8 crickets a night. He will tong feed but in his new tank he now dives into the water area when I open the tank so he won't let me do that anymore.
because of the fake plants in the water, my lil guy can eat all he want in the water in fact that is where i do the feeding, i do not need to worry about him swallowing a mouthful of coco fiber in the water. just a suggestion id put out there
I've tried feeding mine in the aquatic area when he is in there and he wont go for it. That and the crickets die within 30 seconds for some reason.
that seems like a small amount lol maybe its because my frog is so much larger =P
OK, now since ive taken your guy's advice hes eating 8to 12 a day, this is ok right? hes a bit bigger than a golfball
They will stop eating when full. The rule of thumb so to speak is whatever they can eat in 15 minutes. I just feed mine about 6-8 crickets a night and usually throw in 1-2 red wigglers as well to help with digestion.
Sounds good to me lol mine doesn't eat crickets lol

So does your refuse them? Seems pretty odd or you just feed them other stuff instead?
i feed a few times durring the day, i never get to the point where he refuses them.
Nah I just hate crickets I feed only earth worms and roaches and mine gets where he will refuse when full

I'm with you man I freaking hate crickets too but they are just so cheap. I go to my local bait shop once a week and get 150-200 adult crickets for about 8 bucks. I'm still waiting on my dubia colony to to grow before I start feeding from it. I know they are multiplying but still not near the size I need it even for 2 pyxies since my pacmans are terrible eaters they eat maybe 3 crickets every 2 days.
See earthworms are cheaper than crickets here the cheapest I an get crickets without ordering is .11 cents each that's quite expensive and my roach colony can't take a hit if it's to support a beardie and pyxie
