Default Wild frogs in post holes - fatal or intentional?

When wild frogs are at the bottom of a two foot post hole, are they trapped until death, or can they get out whenever

I recently removed a wood fence near my pond. A week later, I found many small frogs in each hole. These holes are two feet deep and four inches across. One hole has at least ten frogs in it, most of them tiny.

Are these frogs trapped and going to die? Or are they safe and able to leave the holes? If they're in danger, what is the best way to get them out? Thanks.
