    Default Help with breeding crickets

    Hello everyone!

Soon, im going to get some Green Tree frogs and i don't want to spend money on buying crickets every week, so im going to breed them.

    So, i have some questions.
From birth, how long do crickets live for?
At what age do they start to lay eggs?
Will they lay eggs without any substrate?

Thanks guys! Any tips and tricks you have will be great. Id love to know how you do breed them.

You could also try breeding roaches. They are pretty simple.

Higher calcium/phos ratio and higher meat:shell ratio with less fat

Roaches are better for your frogs and less of a hassle then crickets. I have two different roach colonies going and I get crickets and other insects for a variety to my critters. Roaches don't stink, breed fast (if kept correctly), don't make noise and are more nutritious.

Yeah I have a Dubia colony, and it's pretty easy. Just give them food, water, and heat, and they multiply like crazy.

    Hi.
I originally had some mealworms for my leopard gecko, but I decided to alternate with crickets.
I bought a medium sized box of them, with like 30.
I thought they would not breed, as they take a long time to reach adulthood.
I was finally going to give up untill i saw thousands of tiny crickets crawling around.
I use egg cartons and use eco earth as a medium for laying eggs.
They star to lay eggs when you see some of them with ovopositors, thin ''sticks'', as I call them.
The eggs took about 2 months and a half to hatch.
Picks of where i breed them.
Keep the medium moist at all times.Name: crickets 003.jpg

lots of videos on youtube on breeding crickets, but i'd go with roaches also because as people are telling you crickets are messy, stink, and make noise.

So your saying roaches will be better for green tree frogs?

If so, how much should i feed one a week?

Also, do they still need calcium powder?

Roaches are better feeders for any reptile than crickets. One roach is like eating 2-3 crickets. Yes you still need to use the calcium powder for the roaches just like the crickets.
