    Question Possible Mutation?

This is one of our beloved bombina orientalis' named Googoo. We've noticed that she has two toes that are stuck together and the foot with these toes is a little on the small side! We have played with her a bit and examined her foot and we are sure that they aren't just close together etc. Have you ever seen this or any other "oddities" before?

All animals can have deformities. I had a cat that was born with a "L" shaped tail. Very weird...didn't seem to affect the cat she just looked odd. Like she was sporting around a hockey stick.

Haha that reminds me of my dad's cat named Lefty.. He doesn't have his left leg. xD
I'm familiar with a very small/basic amount of genealogy and I understand how this type of thing happens, I was just wondering if anybody else had seen similar things.

Other than the two heads I have never observed deformities. Pity she doesn't have two heads instead! Lol !

Hah to be honest I'm glad she doesn't! The hand isn't a big deal but the two heads sounds scary and sad!!

I have a Hyla versicolor with a messed up left hand that didn't develop properly (which is what I'd guess happened to your frog). When he was a juvenile it just looked like a ball of flesh with no fingers. A few gangly fingers have since popped out but the entire arm pretty much stopped growing at a young age, so he has this stubby limb that's pretty useless when it comes to getting around. There's a few pictures of him in my Gray Treefrog album, but I've overall done a poor job documenting it's development.

If you want to see more deformities, find some nearby frog breeding grounds. I've seen many frogs with more severely messed up limbs fresh out of the ponds. I wouldn't say it's common in my area, but with thousands of froglets developing there's going to be some boo-boos. I don't think I've ever spotted a wild frog that managed to get to adulthood without a full compliment of functioning limbs though.
