ive been trying to feed them really small ants and daphnia but they just wont eat!!!!i know they are hungry because they go after the laser pointer i bought.
What kind of toads are they and where did you get them from? Also, how big are they? Please post a picture of them if you can. Small frogs can eat fruit flies or small crickets depending on the size of the frog. Those can be purchased at reptile shops or Petco or Petsmart. You really need to check out the care articles to ensure you've got your bases covered....but first we need to identify what kind of toads you have.
They are american toads. I raised them from tadpoles. They used to eat fish food but now i guess they have to eat live food.
Oh and they are brand new metamorhs. They are about half an inch long.
I'm actually surprised at myself I am considered an expert on frogs and toads by my friends and family.
I have a toadlet that morphed 2 1/2 weeks ago, and he didn't eat anything for about two days after coming out of the water. I still had food available though. Get a flightless fruit fly culture from Petco. Dump some flies in the tank, and make a "screen" of some sort to go over the top so the flies can't escape. I am using some sheer panty hoes that I cut and tied, then I put the top over that. Then just leave them be. They will eat when they are ready.
Honestly I think small crickets should be fine for them. I have several species of toads, and they all eat crickets readily. When I've had small toadlets previously that had a hard time eating, what I would do is move them to a separate cage during feeding time and put a few crickets in there. That way I know they've been fed. Good luck with your toads, they look darling!
Fruit flies, pinhead crickets but the best choice would be red runner roaches.
