New, chubby, fire bellied toad

I had 3 of these toads, came home with 2 more this evening. One, when purchased, was a darker green than my other two greens, now I can't tell much difference between the three. The other is a chubby brown one who appears to like to get into tight places.

The new brown one:


He/she was between a rock and the tank wall the last time I checked on them, maybe the space of about 1/2 inch width. I did put a couple of hiding places in for them.


There will be some gravel put in that "hole" by tomorrow morning, if not earlier.

One of mine seems to like squeezing itself into the tiniest places in their tank also. I guess it makes them feel secure.

I wouldn't worry about filling in the space, unless it's dangerous. My toads love to squeeze into small spots. It's pretty funny when they squeeze in between a rock and the glass (like yours has done), but belly facing outward. You just see this flat orange and black blob through the glass.
Like firebellygirl says, it most likely makes them feel secure, and comfy.

My FBT's love squeezing into tight spaces--when I first got them I would worry that they would get hurt or stuck, but then I came to realize that they really like to do that. I'm just very careful about the surfaces of the stones I put in there, making sure that they are completely smooth so no one gets hurt. I'm very lucky--my landlord has tons of tools and will grind & file stones if I ask him to.

It never ceases to amaze me how they find the most secretive places to hang out. I have 6 FBT's in a 55 gal tank and the most I find is 2-3 of them at any one time

I agree with everyone else to leave it. They love being squished, lol! They'll even squish each other.

That "hole" has long since been plugged with gravel. They have created a few more spots one or more like to hide and I've left them if they are safe (relatively smooth areas), plus added a couple of fake plants for hiding. My brown ones mostly hide; my green ones are mostly out. The chubby one, for a while, liked to hang out under a fake slate piece on the waterfall area with water running over it. Now he likes to mostly hang out among the fake plants.
