Large pebbles as a base?

Hello everyone!

Im planning on getting some Green tree frogs (Whites tree frogs in the US) and im thinking of using some large pebbles as the base.

Would this be ok to use for these guys? It should be easy for me to pick up some poop if i use it.

Should i put some Clay aggregate under the pebbles to absorb some of the water when misting or isn't that necessary?

When you say pebbles I think of things that could be swallowed and thats a big No...No. If you're talking large smooth river rock then yes you could use that. Soil does help retain moisture it just depends on the needs of your setup.

no, the pebbles are big and can't be swallowed.

Are there any disadvantages by using these?

just a heads up, clean off your rocks. you can use bleach since they are non porous. just rinse rinse rinse. and DO NOT BAKE. some rocks can explode in the oven...and that would not be cool hehe.

but like Cheri said. pebbles is a no no. someone posted pictures of their frogs xrays one day and it had tons of pebbles in it. not sure if i can find the thread but i think it was on here. the frog did survive...but small pebbles are no good.

Actually, it will be pretty cool to blow rocks up. But, my parents won't be too happy.

Yep, ill be sure not to buy the small ones. Ive read heaps of bad reports on them and i won't buy the frogs from the pet shop that uses the small pebbles. Ive seen a few that do and ill stay
clear of them.

I use pebbles and rocks and my whites tree frog seem to like it. It is easy to clean and doesnt collect the smell of frog poop the way soil and bark subtrate did.
