    Default New from CT

Hey guys. I joined the forum because I was in petco the other day, and I always look at all of the animals. When I looked in the goldfish tank, there were a couple of giant tadpoles. I know they sometimes get a tadpoles mixed in because the goldfish breeder just nets the goldfish and there must be frogs that lay eggs in the pond. Anyways, this had happened previously, and when I asked if I could buy one they said no for some reason or another (they don't sell them, only got them by accident). Well, when I saw them yesterday, I asked the guy if I could buy one and how much. At first he told me 27 cents (same as the goldfish). I said sure I'll take one. He bagged it up and then said, "Just take it for free". So I was excited. I got home, put it in my turtle tank which also has 2 jack dempseys and about 5 minnows (meant to be feeders but never got eaten). I watched for a while and there was never any aggerssion (30 gallon tank). The 2 turtles I have are babies. The tadpole is huge, maybe 2 inches long. I believe it to be a bullfrog tadpole, which is native to CT. Anyways, since it is a tadpole, are there any tadpole bullfrog caresheets or can anyone give me any tips? I continue to check on him and he is always hiding in a corner or behind the filter, and nothing bothers him (fish or turtles). he is bigger than all the fish and bigger than one of the turtles and the other ones head. Any help is appreciated.

I forgot to mention I have been interested in poison dart frogs and firebelly toads for a while. I originally wanted to get into those but I hope to raise this tadpole into a frog (which I feel will be pretty hard). Once it is a frog I am confident it will be fine. Thanks guys.

    Welcome aboard.

You can feed tadpoles fish food and some romaine would be good too. Now the problem I think you are going to run into is fish are quicker to eat than tadpoles are. So, keeping it well fed may be a problem. If the Jack Dempseys were adults the tadpole would be toast.

When an adult the bullfrog will need a large enclosure. A thirty gallon is just too small for an adult bullfrog. There is a thread here about a home made bullfrog enclosure. Check it out.

Hey there! I raised 3 tads into frogs about... 6 months ago or so. (Released them once they had fully morphed.) For mine, I fed them a diet of frozen bloodworms, tadpole bites from Walmart, and boiled, chopped, then frozen lettuce. Maybe your fish won't go for those items! It gets really exciting when their legs and arms start popping out. Be sure to take lots of pics of the transformation!!

Well, your care questions are pretty much covered but I thought I would welcome another Connecticut member! Where in CT are you from?
