I have approximately 12 pacific tree frog tadpoles rescued from a lady's pond. They are doing great, have grown a lot and are eating well (fish flakes and newt/tadpole bites). I am worried however about transitioning them into live food, pinhead crickets or fruit flies. When do they start eating live food? Any tips?
thanks in advance!
First, why did they need "rescued"? And second what will you be doing with the survivors? I believe they show interest in live food right after they lose their tails. They might not eat while this is happening.
It was one of those tiny black pond insert things. She was relandscaping and removing the pond. I am hoping to return them to the wild once they are ready!
aaah i see well good luck with them!
Make sure you have a place for them to climb onto when they start reabsorbing their tails. Then, they probably won't eat for a bit. It seemed forever before mine wanted to eat after that. But fruit flies were the best choice for them. They are amazingly tiny little frogs when they first change over, and fruit flies were the smallest thing I could find for them. Nobody around here had pinhead crickets.
