Thread: My Pacman has a lump

Default My Pacman has a lump

Hi there! I am new here and just got my first Pacman, yesterday. My boyfriend and I noticed that he has a hard lump on his back, he also looks kind of awkward, nowhere near as nice as some of the frogs I have seen on here. I had him in a little container for his (purified water) bath and then that container inside a large Rubbermaid container in the case that he jumped out, and he did. I wouldn't have put him on the slippery surface myself, but I jumped at the chance and took some pictures.

I also used a water dropper to rinse away some of the dirt that is stuck on him, but he is quite dirty and it didn't work very well.

He does look disperportioned. He might have slight scoliosis. Does he seem like he is in pain when you touch it or handle him. Does he eat and act normally?

I haven't really handled him. I tried a little bit but he slipped away and it startled me, so I scooped him into a container. He is eating. He is my first frog so I am not familiar with how they should be acting, but he is acting like I feel a frog should. He got a little defensive with the container and bit it and was kicking it. He's not lethargic or anything. The lump is hard and almost feels like it could be an old scar or bone poking out.

Does it shift under the skin at all? If it does it could be a cyst... If a cyst has gone long enough without popping or draining it can harden (which isn't dangerous if it's somewhere like on its back). Whatever it is, if he's not a baby and being active, it's probably not an issue.

Other than that, he looks like a nice little frog

I felt it, it feels more like a bone than a cyst. He has been kind of antsy this morning, and he has been chirping. It sounds almost like a cricket.

He looks like he needs to poop. feel his right side. if there is a firm spot there then he needs to poop. You can soak him in Luke warm de-chlorinated water with 3 to 4 drops of honey disolve in it. This acts like a natural laxative for them and provides an energy boost.

    keep us posted.

You have already gotten some great advice from everyone. If it is a scoliosis, it may not progress any further and the frog can live a good life. Good luck with him/her......I hope a good poop or 2 solves the problem!!

So no luck yet. I soaked him and he has not pooped. I use a small tupperware container for his baths and then I put that in a larger rubbermaid container, in the case that he jumps out. He hates his baths and jumps out every time.

The water should be no deeper than up to his chin. Only put honey in the first bath. The rest you give him should be just luke warm de-chlorinated water.

Yeah, I only put honey in the first bath. I am going to bring him by the pet store on Saturday and see if they can help (Saturday is when the "expert" is in). My boyfriend told me to return him, but I feel bad and I don't want to return him just because he is a little different, I tend to fall in love with less fortunate animals. But if it is something that is fixable and makes him more comfortable, then bonus!

I don't think he will get any worse. if he has made it to that size then the worst is behind him. Especially since you care for him and are willing to help him. I believe he'll be fine.

    Keep us posted.

So I brought him into the pet store and the guy there said it feels like an old injury. He is not impacted, yay. I found what looked like a giant pellet in his tank and broke it up, there were cricket wings inside, poop, yay! I am going to keep him and love him.
I put him in a larger home, I am using a large clear rubbermaid bin that is about 6 inches tall. He sounds happy right now, he is calling.

Sorry, I am having issues using words right now haha
