I've seen a lot of different designs for rain chambers but what seems to be glossed over more often then not, is the types and species of plants used in them. For breeding red eyes I've seen pothos and even fake plants used. But what about the Phyllomedusa frogs? Almost all of them lay their eggs on the leaves then wrap the leaf around the eggs. Would fake leaves work just as well or do they need to be live plants for the frogs to use them? Also what species of plants are commonly being used to breed such frogs as P. hypochondrialis, P. sauvagii, and P. bicolor?
Hi,
I have nerve bred frogs but wanted to comment on the leaf question.
Don't you thing a plastic leaf would be too stiff and a fabric "silk" one may not hold enough , moisture.
Perhaps look at trailing Philodendron plants ? The pothos are great for this as the plant does not mind being constantly wet !
