Main diet?

Just wondering what you all feed your horned frogs as a main diet.
Vitamins & calcium are regularely used ofcorse.

I feed mainly;

- Crickets
- Rainworms (redworms)
- Tebo larve

Ocasionaly;

- African locusts
- Waxworms
- Own bred small fish and freshwater shrimp.
- Roaches

Anyting else I could feed?

I feed night crawlers , crickets some times, and pac food when I have it ( not often ).. but night crawlers is my main food for my pacs.

It seems that night crawlers are the same as the rainworm, as we call it.

Nightcrawlers, earthworms, rainworms...........pretty much the same thing.
We avoid the red wigglers because our frogs don't like them.

Should never be fed to your frog until it reaches 2.5 inches in length. when feeding mice use pinkies. They're easier to digest because they don't have hair. Feed them no more than one per month it every 2 months no more than that.

once a month is ok.. but they are unnecessary. I have breeders who have never had a mouse or rat and breed just fine.

I would think fuzzys would be better on a purely nutritional level (take note I've never fed mice to frogs this is from my reptile experience) but pinkies have no bone and are almost all fat no muscle or anyway to gain calcium seems like eating a little pink packet of lard doesn't seem healthy at all and fuzzys may have hair but it's very fine and they have bones for calcium as far as monitors and tegus go most I won't feed pinkies bc they don't have much to them I could be wrong and If I am correct me because I like to learn new stuff lol either way I don't see a reason to feed rodents to frogs personally

Frogs have trouble digesting mammalian tissues so adding hair to the process makes it that much worse and even more of a risk for impaction and prolapsed intestine. Better safe than sorry. If you need more calcium content you dust the pinky before offering it. Problem solved.

Just what I was thinking. I never feed any rodents to reptiles eigther (exept most snakes ofcorse).
When a reptile isn't doing well, maybe a pinky/fuzzy could help gain a little fat. But in my experiance I never suggest feeding rodents anyway. Even my large monitors were only fed rodants on occasion, they don't need it.
Comming bac to the Ceratophrys, No rodents then as it could do more harm than good.

When can nightcrawlers be fed? Our pac is the size of a nickle and they would seem way to big at this point? Just doing small crickets gutloaded and dusted right now. Also when could they be fed nymph dubias?

The general rule of thumb is to feed things no larger than the distance between the frog's eyes. They Can eat bigger items, but that creates greater risk. The good thing about nightcrawlers is that they can be cut to size. Just cut off an appropriately sized chuck and feed it to the frog. Your Pac is too small for dubias right now though.

We feed red wigglers to our babies. They do give off a defensive chemical of some sort that makes them smell/taste bad. It's harmless, but most of the frogs seem to refuse them after a while.

That sounds like a good diet for pacman frogs.

I feed mine earthworms, crickets, guppies, and occasionally pinkies(once a month).

You can alternate between the 2. I just realized what I said above about dubias being to big is false. I forgot that you can feed off the tiny pill bug sized babies without issue. Just no larger. You can try red wigglers, but like I said the defensive perfume is fowl. Your frog may refuse them after about the 2nd or 3rd feeding.

Butterworms is what we call Tebo larve here. The frogs love them and since they have a high level of calcium, I think they are a good food source although they also have a high fat rate so must not be fed as a main food source. Almost the same thing can be said for the waxworm (larve of Chilecomadia moorei). Tese larve live in beehives and consume mainly beewax and pollen. They taste very sweet, like honey but contain mainly fat and these are known to give impactation in amphibians and reptiles if fed too often and in high quantity's
