Hi All!
I have a quick question regarding heating for my pacman frogs. I live in northern Canada and have a fairly hard time keeping my temps stable for my pacmans (pacmen?). I currently have them in a warmer room in the house with an UTH mounted on the side of my 10 Gal. aquarium. Even still, my temperatures range on the low side of the acceptable temperature ranges. The heater is rated properly for the size of tank I have, but it's just not keeping up. I was wondering about using a heat lamp instead but have read varying things on all the different types. Rather than guess and risk the health of Trevor and Craig (who are housed in separate 10 gallon aquariums in case you were worried!!) I figured I'd go straight to the experts!
I was looking at an Exo Terra Heat Wave Lamp. Has anyone used one to heat their pacman? Do they work/are they recommended? Would you recommend something else instead?
Thanks in advance![]()
If you are planning on using a heat lamp use a Fluker's 5.5 inch Clamp Lamp with dimmer switch. The dimmer switch allows you to accurately control the amount of heat and light produced by the bulb. You can use Exo Terra Sun Glo incandescent basking spot lamp bulb for day and Exo Terra Heat Glo Infrared bulb for night. Go no higher than 50 watts for either bulb.
Please not that as the light increases the temp within the enclosure the relative humidity will drop often within the enclosure. Mist more often to fix this or purchase a Zoo Med Reptifogger.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for the information! I will look into purchasing those. Here's hoping the little guys can stay toasty warm now! I haven't had an issue with humidity and mist as needed, but that being said, I will definitely keep an eye on the humidity as the temps go up. With the day/night bulbs, do you use a 12 hour cycle?
