Hello All,
My Wife and I started with 3 African Dwarf frogs last week, we loved watching and being entertained by them so much we went out and bought 2 more and got a bigger tank today. After prepping the new tank, and placing all their toys in there, We transferred the original 3 frogs to the new tank first. Then Introduced the 2 new comers. We left for dinner for a couple hours, and after returning home we found 1 frog was missing. We can only find 4 frogs. I'm wondering if the missing frog was Eaten by another frog. I've searched High and low, inside and out of the tank thinking maybe he jumped out.(While transferring to new tank) But can't find any trace of him anywhere. There are no other species in the tank with them, just wondering if anyone else has experienced a similar situation. And yes the cover was on the tank when we left for dinner.
Several things could have occurred here. If it got out then place water bowls around the house to give him a place to go to and watch for dust bunnies pulled out from places.
If the frog was small enough to fit in one of the others mouth then yes, one could have eaten the other.
They are also masters at hiding and will bury themselves under substrate or deep into a plant to hid, especially when new to tank and stressed.
