Ok so on all of the aquarium calculators it says my viv is 19.43 gallons. I looked on google and saw pictures of 20 gallon high vivariums which are all the same size as mine so i'm going to call it a 20 gallon high viv.
The question is: I am planning on releasing my current common frog- it just isn't working it's skittish and doesn't really belong in a vivarium. I like the sound and look of dumpy frogs / whites tree frogs. I am prepared to pay for one or two if my viv is big enough. Here are the measurements in cm:
60cm Length 46cm Height 32cm Wide. or if you need to know its a 20 gallon high style viv
Is this ok for at least one (hoping that i can just have one)
Thanks in advance.
(I'm not prepeared to spend any more money buying vivariums so this is the biggest i can go)
Anyone? I just wanted to know![]()
I'm horrible at converting cm to inches so Ill ask, is that 18x18x24 inches? I think thats what a 20 gal is. That size can hold 2 whites but if its 12x12x18 inches then only one will be comfortable in the space. Whites get along pretty well on there own and if its the bigger then a single whites will be ecstatic but if its the smaller they will still be happy as long as you have plants or small logs that can get them up. My tank is the smaller and I have a half hollow log (Azy sleeps in there all day) and two peices of drift wood that I've stacked and it gets her up almost all the way to the top. She has a live plant to help with humidity (its sadly not strong enough to hold her weight, though. so thats why the drift wood is important) and a large stone water dish. The only other thing I want to add is another vine-like plant that will cover part of the drift wood so it gives her up space to hide in. Hiding places are a must especially during the day. Whites dont particularly care for the light. Actually, Azy starts to go back to sleep if the lights are turned back on when shes already come out. XD
Hope that was somewhat helpful. ^^;
Miss Roddam,
I don't know how you obtained your frog, or how long you have had it?

Releasing it !!!! Just wondering, why?You might find it more rewarding to commit to providing a perfct home for him , now tht he has been in capitivity.
If is captive breed, it will die. If it was wild caught it is it is even worse to release it back into the wild!

It is just a European common frog that i got from my garden when we were altering the ponds, my parents have fixed the ponds and i decided to keep it a bit longer but it is really skittish and jumpy, i have only had it about 3-4 weeks and letting it hunt its prey but it does sometimes stay at the front of the glass sliding doors and try to escape. I love the frog and have had fun part raising it but it wants out and i got it when it had been a froglet for a few weeks because it was quite big and its only grown a few mm's. Also onto to Whites Tree Frog's- I think it would be best if i got an easy to care for captive bred frog that i could watch in its vivarium. Also i have just read the helpful link-
I do not own any other specie of frog just that one on its own
I was planning on raising it to adult then releasing but releasing it now is a better option
I caught it from my ponds in my back garden when the family were reconstructing it
Its not been in captivity long and certainly has not became tame just the same wild skittish frog it was before
Please don't think i'm arguing im just telling you all the truth so please dont take my post the wrong way
Thank youI'm horrible at converting cm to inches so Ill ask, is that 18x18x24 inches? I think thats what a 20 gal is. That size can hold 2 whites but if its 12x12x18 inches then only one will be comfortable in the space. Its 24" Long, 12" Wide and 18" Height
Its more of a long than tall but i was hoping to do it as branches going across instead of up and taking out the back ground and buying those silk leaves with suction cups and putting them on all the walls. My 13th birthday is on the 23rd may so If my tank can hold one i will go and buy one from leapin-lizards with all the extras. Heres a picture with a felt tip on thee glass slider to show how big it is as in some pictures you can't tell. Thank you so much for your help so far.
It does have a 75 watt red bulb in which i think is a heat bulb. I paid £60 on the viv with my money and i only get £10 a month haha. I know it's not the best setup but it will house one tree frog right?
If i move the back ground it will be three inches bigger floor space
Looking at the picture and the vivarium - I think it would house two White's Tree Frogs just fine.
However, I still wouldn't think it's a good idea to release your wild caught frog you have back into to wild whether it's "tame" or not. It simply would not survive on it's own now that you have taken it from the wild. =\ I know you want to do good by the frog by releasing it, but when you took it from the wild you diminished it's chances of survival by taking it into captivity. And what I mean is that it's use to being given food at every opportunity and probably use to that now even if "not kept that long." What is done is done. If you no longer want your frog then I'd auggest trying to find some place or someone who will take it in and will want to take care of it.

Thanks for all your help! My local reptile shop leaping-lizards have given me advice and have given me a 'shopping' list for when i get the frog. It will cost about £25 including the frog adding on some more for some plants and the babys are tiny smaller than a 5p but since your american i think that's a nickel? haha i'm not good with that stuff :P I've set up a smaller tank for the other wild frog and will still take care of it. I'm securing the vivarium with reptile and amphibian or fish safe silicone the shop gave me and letting it cure for two weeks before adding the stuff and buying the frog wish me luck and you'll find me in the tree-frog section allot more now! The guy said it would house a group of three great but i'm only getting one and maybe later get him/her a tank mate. I'm thinking of Dumpling for his name as he is a dumpy tree frog![]()
Good for you !!! You should be very proud you have decided not to release your frog .
Dumpling - that's adorable
Enjoy them

Thanks I willHope fully getting dumpling in two weeks
Thanks for your help
Given this info, I don't see any problems with releasing it if you aren't able to provide it with an adequate setup. It hasn't been exposed to anything funky, and it's going back exactly where you found it. It won't have forgotten how to find food on it's own after a month.
I'm so glad you changed your mind about releasing the frog you caught! I have a White's Tree Frog (or Dumpy) named Kiwi and he seems to hide most of the time. But, that's due to me because I have his enclosure heavily "planted" (I have a lot of fake vines in there for him.) I see him every once in awhile soaking in his water bowl and I definitely hear him about EVERY night, lol!
