Hi!
I am brand new here, just registered and this is my first posting, so I'm hoping I get a response!Anyhow, I've had a red eyed tree frog for about a month now, and have never had one before, so I'm brand new to that as well. Altho I'm a research QUEEN and have spend hours and hours reading up on them!!! The main thing that I've noticed about her is that she hardly ever moves! I'm reading about how all these adorable little frogs are "waiting at their food bowl" for their owners to feed them, and eating tons of crickets, dubia's, etc... and that's awesome! My frog barely moves out of her one spot! much less do i EVER get to watch her eat!!
I understand they are nocturnal, but on most occassions she is in the EXACT same spot as she was when the lights went out! Her tank is right smack next to my bed, (don't worry, no action THERE to scare her from being awake!!lol) and i've even gotten up to check on her in the middle of the night on numerous occassions, just to have her in the same spot all night long!
And feeding...? I'm lucky if she eats 2 small (not pinhead) crickets every other day! I have them in a feeding bowl and I don't see them disappearing at a phenominal rate as I've read others say their's do! and altho i'm not sure what their poo looks like, i haven't seen any unusual things in her water bowl! lol
yesterday i changed the substrate in the tank from reptile carpet and a water bowl to about 1.5 inches of water with a small fountain and many many large rocks and fake plants for her to crawl on (since i've read that tree frogs don't swim). but i've had the problem of her not being "motivated" since I've gotten her.
When i DO make her move (pick her up to make sure she's alive!) she looks wonderful! she doesn't seem the LEAST bit sickly, or underfed, or anything, it's just that I have to move her myself in order for her to be interested in life!
Soooo, any suggestions? BTW, Sorry for such a long post! I'm just worried about her being so lifeless yet seemingly healthy!!
Thanx!
Lisa
Hi Lisa,
Welcome to FF !
I'm afraid your post is in the wrong spot. You might have it moved to "tree frogs" so you get additional replies.
(you could pm moderator(s) - "john" or "DonLisk")
How long have you had your frog?
If it has been for a very short time. You could cover the back and sides of the tank, temporarily , to make the frog feel more secure.
Also consider putting the enclose in the quietest spot in the room.
Try not or handle your frog ( although difficult to resist) unless it is absolutely necessary.
Careful w/ the water at 1- 1/2" deep, keep an eye on things!!
If it is a large area of water that deep-------- there MUST be a few really easy ways out.
They are beautiful, but sometimes not cooking on all four burners !!
A simple water dish with de-chlorinated water just below the frogs chin would be fine.
When they are adjusting it can take several days before they start exploring. I have frogs that sleep on the same leaf for weeks!
You could ( cut and paste) answer these questions to get things going.
It help you and FF members to identify any possible adjustments that need to be made in the enclosure:

Thx Lynn!
I did notice that I posted in the wrong forum, therefore i re-posted in the tree frog forum.) Thank you for your response, btw! I've had her for about a month now. altho i just changed the inside around yesterday. I have covered all sides of her enclosure which is a 10 gallon glass aquarium, and my room is by far the quietest spot in the house! lol. i think i will change the water level out tomorrow, altho i really do like the fountain effect!
) I'm glad to know that yours have stayed on the same leaf for weeks! Thanks for your response!
