New Xenopus laevis froglet

Wellll went to the fish store to check out their plants and visit the frogs and ended up bringing another home. I really can't be trusted in that place. I just can't resist the cuteness of those babies! I've bought 2 froglets from them in the past and they have both grown into really large and beautiful ladies. I'm still hoping to get a borealis or some other interesting type in the near future, but I just couldn't pass this girl up. I've never see a frog quite this color before. She is a very pale green, almost yellow, with dark eyes and blueish gray stripes and spots. She is gorgeous in person, I just wish the photos would do her some justice. Since she is a pretty good size I decided to offer her some guppies (I had picked up a dozen tiny feeders for my adults). She downed FOUR of them!! I love her voracious appetite. She is going to be a beast, I can already tell. I named her Pip, for Pipidae (original lol, i know). After a month in quarentine with lots of food I'm hoping that she'll be big enough to move in with the colony. Right now though she would make a tastey morsel for my big female. I took a video of her handfeeding guppies. I'll post it later if I can figure out how to.

Very cute! How do you know that she is a female? Or are you just guessing

Nice frog, looks like a very light wildtype or something.

Thanks guys! I can already see a very small "tail". It is easier to see when the frog is a light color. I was able to tell on an albino female when she was even smaller than this one! There is always the chance that I could be wrong, but right now it looks female.

Very cute! I'll be interested to see if her color changes as she matures. My froglet looked very similar when I first brought him home, but has gotten slightly darker as he has grown.

Yes, I'd be more surprised if it didn't change. Apart from the regular albinos, most froglets' color changes quite a bit as the grow. However, I've never had a froglet her color, so I'll have to see how much she darkens. I'm hoping she'll stay lighter than my other wild-types. You never know though, she could just be temporarily pale from a poor diet. Only time will tell.
