Kassina maculata is also known as the red-legged kassina. It breeds in water that has dense vegetation. Native to southern and central Africa, this frog can pack a toxic punch. Handle it carefully as the toxins can adversely affect mammals and possibly humans. In many cases, frogs that are normally highly toxic (like dart frogs) will lose their poison while in captivity since they are not fed the same insects as they get in the wild. I am not sure if these frogs will fall in the same category. I have a fondness for African frogs and one of my favorites is Kassina senegalensis.
