    Default Worried about my tadpoles

hello, everyone! I have had two little tadpoles for about one week now. Based on my research, I believe they are toads. They live in one of those pet carriers with natural spring water, some rocks for hiding, and a live leafy plant for shelter, food, and oxygen. They seem to be doing well, but I am concerned about the temperature of their water. Right now, there is no need for heat or AC, and my house is about 71 degrees F. I put their tank a tiny bit in the sun later in the afternoons so they can get a little vitamin D. I am just concerned about the water being too cold. It doesn't feel like it is above 70. I am buying a thermometer today. Any advice?

    Hi,
I don't have toads, but I will try to help.
Dust their food source w/ vitamin and calcium.
Please ! Don't put them in the sun! They will be micro-waved.
    Purchase a thermometer.
Simply house them the way they should be housed?
If you do not now what you have ; perhaps post a photos in the toad? section so a FF member can help ID them.
Then you will be able to do the research needed to take proper care of them.
They will be soooo stressed otherwise! ::
If they can not be ID and they are wild caught, go back to where you found them, look the area over carefully /duplicate their surroundings as closely as possible ? until they can be identified.

Don't worry, I read about not letting them get too much sun. I am talking barely any of their tank is in a tiny bit if indirect sunlight for a few minutes a day.

I am about to go back where I found them to check out their natural habitat. Maybe collect a couple of leaves with algae from their puddles.

I am 99% sure they're toads. The only species that live where I found them are toads, gray tree frogs, green tree frogs, spring peepers, and chorus frogs.

How do you dust food for tadpoles?

I am more concerned about them over heating rather getting too cool. You can drop them down to 60F,
    no problemo.

Cool. I got them a thermometer and their water was at about 71. I went back to where I found them, and the water temperature there was about 75.

It's obvious I gave the impression that I am leaving them in the sun, which is not the case at all. I by no means meant I put there tank in direct sunlight and just leave if there...

Funny, I have been accused of not having that skill several times over by former bosses, ex-girlfriends, and my mother.

lol. I think we choose to listen to certain people and certain things when we want to. XD

YogaFrog, what type of thermometer did you get? Did you get a stick on the enclosure type or one you float and/or you suction cup to the inside? I don't trust either of those, myself, to accurately give a proper temperature. I have bought several of these for both my fish tanks & budgetts' frog enclosure.

The temperature you keep your tads at will determine how quickly they grow. If they have been fine at 71*F then just keep it that way. However, keeping them a little warmer wouldn't harm them either.
