Welcome to the forum! Please read the pacman care sheet if you have not already: Frog Forum - Pacman and Horned Frogs - Ceratophrys - Care and Breeding
You should Never use a bulb above 50 watts for a pacman! Especially for a 5 gallon tank. Pet stores tend to know very little about these frogs. They gave you bad advice. I HIGHLY recommend getting a light with a dimmer switch; this will allow you to tweak the temp and not cook your frog. Flucer's makes a 5.5 inch dome lamp with a dimmer switch. (That is what I use for each of my Pacs, and it works great!) With regards to the bulbs, I recommend Exo Terra Daylight Basking Spotlight bulb and Exo Terra Heat Glo for nighttime. Remember Never to go above 50 Watts!! Your frog should have a 12 hour day/night cycle. Day temps for a baby/juvenille should be 80-83, for adults 80-85, night temps are 75-79 for both. Humidity should be a consistent 80%.
It is a good idea to have a UTH regardless. For a five gallon tank, you probably want the smaller size. Zoo Med makes a 4W (it says for hermit crabs but works great for smaller enclosures) otherwise there is a larger 8W UTH for amphibians/reptiles. Despite the name Under Tank Heater, NEVER place the pad on the bottom becuase Pacs will burrow down to the pad and burn themselves. UTHs should always be placed on the side of the tank slightly above the substrate. The enclosure should have a temperature gradient (a warm, drier side and a cooler, wet side. The UTH will be on the warm side and the water dish on the cool side. This way your frog can choose a spot just right for him/her. :-) Also, please note that when you are applying the heating pad be very careful not to bend or twist it. The wiring components in them are very fragile and if broken can cause the pad to malfunction and overheat. When applying it, keep it flat and gently press onto the glass starting at one corner and working smoothly across it. It would be helpful if you could post pictures of your set up so we can further help you.
You should be able to find many threads regarding lighting/heating. You can do a forum search or browse through older threads. Here are a couple to start with: http://www.frogforum.net/pacman-frog...ing-needs.html http://www.frogforum.net/pacman-frog...r-pacmans.html
