First off, I'd like to say "Hi!" I'm new here, my name is Teejay!
Now on to my question.
I'm researching every INCH of the internet about Red Eyed Tree Frogs. I have experience with A LOT of animals (being only 20) from Iguanas, Green Tree Frogs, Anoles, Salamanders, Hermit Crabs, Fish, etc etc.
I know all about Red Eyed Tree Frogs as they're my favorite frogs, so I know I could take care of them in the best way. I was just wondering, I have a shore house in Long Beach Island, that from April-October we go to every weekend from like Thursday-Monday, some times longer.
Would it be TOO stressful on the frogs to transport them in a Critter Keep (large) every weekend, or would it be better if I just get a timed mister/fogger to keep the humidity levels up while I'm gone, and load the cage with crickets?
If you want to keep these frogs for 4-5 days without any maintenance:
Feeding 4-5days per meal is ok.
Using misting sys to maintain humidity is ok.
I think the most challenging problem is how to keep the water clean. Adult RETF produce many wastes, it is easily to contaminate the water. The frogs are easily suffering from Red Leg syndrome or other diseases if contact foul water constantly.
If you insist to do it, I suggest keeping a small number (maybe 2) of frogs in the tank.
Fill the bottom of tank with water and use filtration sys. or putting several water bowl/tank on the bottom, in case one bowl is contaminated, there are several water bowl still clean.
Provide more plants, they may produce feces on the leaves not in the water.
You have green tree frog, right! How can you keep them during Apr-Oct?![]()
I don't have any frogs at the moment, just a cat and dog!
But that's what I planned on doing, I def want to have a water feature with a pump/filter so the water circulates and gets cleaned through a filter and also raises the humidity.
