Can I keep a female and a male together?
Can I use earthworms from my garden (pesticide free)? (I have fed them to my expensive goldfish breeds without any problems, so I think it's fine)
Should I use a heat pad? NYC, keeping it in the basement where it is warm and humid. It's around 80F in here since it's the spring, and lowers to around 75f at night. If I have to get one, can I wait till the winter?
Also, is this a male?

I don't keep pyxies, but I think I saw somewhere that the first option is likely a no. Aggressive frogs=gather during mating season. Take this with a pinch of salt.
Yes, you can feed pesticide free earthworms from your garden if you have verified it to be a safe species.
I can't help for the last two questions. Use the heat pad as suited with a thermostat, probably.
Females and Males should be seperated at all times. There is 1 confirmed breeder of these frogs in the United states, and this was achieved thru hormone injections and proper cycling.
The substrate you are using appears too saturated with water, I would recommend instead of a marshy mix you use slightly moist eco earth with a large waterbowl he can easily get in and out of. As for you temps, If you are able to maintain 80 degrees thru out the tank at all times that will be fine, but if you are only temping the warm end at 80, the other side may be as cool as 70 degrees which is in-adequate to achieve proper feed response.
The frog you have posted may be a male if he is still young, but if that is an adult it is most likely a female. If he is young time will tell on the sex. In my honest opinion its your frog, if you want to feed him earthworms from your garden that is your choice and it should be fine, but walmart sells them 20ct @ 3$ which i personally cant pass up, so this should be an option. Also be aware that during the winter earthworms in your garden, as well as stores become scarce to non existant, I would recommend another staple such as dubia roaches or crickets to suppliment during cold months.
Okay, thanks. It's still young. I will change the substrate as you said too.
I wasn't really trying to breed them, just wanted to see whether I can keep them together, as I've seen people keep males of equal size together.
I would buy them from walmart, sadly their is none in NYC (They are in New Jersey which is a hour or 2 away). Perhaps Petco or Petsmart may have a equivalent. I will probably start a Dubia colony for the winter months.
Thanks for all the info.
no problem
As for the males and females just being housed together I would worry. My males are extremely aggressive, If you were trying to keep a few females together I'd say definently go for it! but if you end up with a male you may have a problem
Okay. I just asked the seller about the sex of the frog, he affirmed me is was male since it grew much faster out of the 8 he bought and despite not having too much yellow coloration, it has a wide head. I will probably just use the tank divider till I can get a smaller tank for the female probably.
Sorry, 1 more question.
I currently keep the Male African Bullfrog in a Large Exo Terra Faunarium plastic tank. He is almost 4 inches.
How many inches big should he be when I have to transfer to a 20 gallon long? Or should I do it now?
