Lemon juice, lots of vinegar, sometimes rubbing alcohol. If all else fails, use glass-cleaner and follow it up with rubbing alcohol and vinegar. If you use either rubbing alcohol or glass cleaner, it's best to let it sit for as long as possible before doing anything with it. (Like for a week.)
I'm a sculptor, and I use 99% isopropyl alcohol for sculpting. I also use it from time to time to detail clean tanks, although I never use it with tanks that have inhabitants. For cleaning the tanks that I have pets in, I use JUST vinegar and let it completely dry before putting them back in.
EDIT: If you use glass cleaner, you want to follow it up with rubbing alcohol and then vinegar. The rubbing alcohol will evaporate any chemicals left by the glass cleaner and then the vinegar will evaporate any residue from the rubbing alcohol. Vinegar is safe for pets as long as it's dry, never leave the tank (with pets in it) with wet vinegar on the glass. I don't know if it's toxic, but I can't imagine it'd be any good for them.
I've been using the above methods for 5+ years in caring for my crested geckos (who lick the glass) and for 10+ years in caring for turtles.
