    Default Cricket Breeding

    Hi there!

    Im going for my first try to breed crickets. I have already read tons of stuff about them so Im pretty sure about what to do but all the guides are directed to the Achetus Domesticus. The thing is, I dont think the crickets I buy from the petstore are exactly like that....
    The crickets I buy are labeled mini-crickets for feeding but are alot darker, dont have wings, and from the last batch of 40-50 that I bought, I couldnt differ the males from the females because they all have only two spikes at their "bottom" and no ovipositor.

    So can someone please tell me what kind of crickets do I have?

    Heres a photo, all of them look pretty much the same:
    Thanks

    Looks like a prewing field cricket. I'm not sure though. They are good to use. But you will have a problem if you don't have any females. A better type of cricket to use is a house cricket. You can find them at bait shops.

    Prewing = Pre-wing?
    Whatever the case, can I generally use the same breeding techniques as for the Achetus Domestica aka House Cricket aka Pinhead Cricket?

    And howcome in 40-50 crickets none have ovipositors?

    Thanks in advance

    As for why they don't have ovipositors, I'm not sure. Crickets breed as juveniles and lay eggs as adults, is it possible the pet store removed all of the females for breeding purposes and then selling males only? I've heard of cricket breeders doing that... But yes, you can breed them the same way as they are closely related.
