ordered some medium phoenix worms for my bearded dragon and thought that they would be perfect for my firebellys, has anyone used these and can i use em as a staple?
I tried them with my Cope's and Fowler's and thought what a great idea. Researched the nutritional value and found them to be great. Picked them up at ReptiCon, gave them to the toads and they passed them whole. No harm to the toads or frogs, but the worms passed whole and still alive. Web search doesn't tell you this, but if you feed them to animals that don't chew their food, you need to stick the worm with a pin before feeding them to frogs/toads. I found this out by emailing the worm supplier, the distributor had no idea.

my firebelly toads love them! I don't use them as a staple, but as a treat every few months because I can only get them online. I wish someone around me sold them. They sure beat yucky, stinky, noisy crickets.
hmm passing them whole really doesnt sound good, im still going to try a few to see but not nearly as much as i planned. and if you stick the worm with a pin wouldnt it die and the frogs wouldnt go for it anywase? but overall nutritionaly they should be awesome as a treat to get calcium in them
The phoenix worm isn’t an active worm, at least the ones I had didn’t move much at all, that is until I poked them with a pin. Then they moved enough to get the toads attention. But then I feed turkish roaches to my frogs and toads, and yes I know, you can’t get roaches in Canada, so sad.
