I dont keep RELF but that looks like abrasions or burns to me. Could you post pics of your tank? There might be something he's stabbing or burning his feet on. For now, though, I'd move him to a "hospital" type enclosure to keep him from getting infected. Use something like a critter keeper with damp paper towels on the bottom.

If your local pet store carries it get something called "repti wound-healing aid" made by zoo med. It kept my little green from loosing her leg in January. If you cant get it you can use Neosporin that has NO painkillers in it but sometimes its hard to find that and the painkillers can be very harmful to your frog. I prefer the healing aid because its made specifically for reptiles and amphibians.

    Hi Will,
It looks like an injury ? ( trauma) ; especially since it is bilateral( both sides) like that.
If she were mine - this is is what I would think about:
Do you know if she took a giant leap to or from something?
Is there something in the viv that is rough that she sits or sleeps on?
Could she have slept in an area that got too dry? causing her feet to stick to the glass when she moved.
How do you heat the tank. Where ever the heat source is----place your wrist on the area - if possible, from the inside of the viv to make sure it is not too hot.

The retiti wound is a great idea if the skin is broken.
At best keep a very close eye on it.
You might consider some exta soaks?
Set up a shallow container with a lid ( w/ air holes) right in her viv VERY slightly warmed water.

Make sure you keep the glass and soaking dishes as clean as possible. Schrub- friction removes germs.

Do a search --- I'm sure there is a FF "first aid" thread.

A while ago, ( I rescued a red eyed) I used a used weak Camomile tea brewed in distilled water.
When it is cooled you can drip it on her feet or drop from a clean eye dropper.
Drop a couple of drops on the area.
It can be used twice a day.
Plus you can sneak it on her when she is sleeping.
My guys would not wake up during a treatment like this.
It might be better than grabbing her ( so stressful) to make her soak?

If the skin breaks down she mwill need a topical antibiotic. I have not read the ingredients in the repti wound ? vs neosporin ( WITH OUT PAIN RELIEVER !!)
BUT-- the neosporin is greasy/creamy. This may not be a good idea for back feet, as she may rub her face during shed. I think all depends whether or not the skin is broken.
The Camomile tea will not hurt her. Naturally, you want to keep additional stress to a minimum.

here is the info from the retiai which does NOT include any antibiotic.
    ingredients:

    jojoba oil
    8-quinolinol
    ti (tea) tree oil

Use as a topical antiseptic to help heal cuts, burns and abrasions on reptiles.
Can also be used to help heal topical infections on toads.
    Directions:
    Shake before using.
For cuts, burns and abrasions: Apply several drops of Repti Wound Healing Aid to a cotton swab (included) or to a cotton ball. Gently rub on affected area. Use twice daily until you notice an improvement. If there is no improvement after one week, consult a reptile veterinarian.

Thank you so much Lynn, you are awesome!

Last night was the first time that I seen her feet. The day I brought her home she went in to the tank and went straght to a leaf and went to bed, the travel must have been stressful. I looked at her belly, legs and body at the show for any signs of sickness. I never really thought to look at her feet. Live and learn I guess is the moral of this story. I am so glad that I consulted you guys on here. My mind automatically went to the worst case scenario and said "oh no she has Red Leg". So glad to have you guys here to reel me back in and say heres what it looks like and here is what you should do.

I will keep you posted on how the treatments are working. Once again Thank You sooooooooo much Lynn!

Ooooo. Lynn I must thank you for the info about the tea (even though its not my thread >w< ). Would it be safe for Whites, Grays, and Greens too? I like to have a different types of treatments for injuries and ailments since we have one herp vet in my area and they think very highly of themselves (300$ a visit! @.@).

Will I'm sure you did just fine checking her (sorry for calling her a him in my first post ^^; ) out before getting her. Like Lynn said, it looks more like an abrasion or burn then a sickness which you would not have seen prior to buying her. I would just check the tank for any really rough or sharp spots (or extreme hot spots) and take care of those so she dosn't re-injure herself.

Yeah I went all over the tank to try and find anything that may have caused it but it is a very simple tank with a few fake plants, a stick, water dish and some substrate. It is a quarintine tank until I can get her in with my other RETF. That is why I am assuming that maybe it was there when I brought her home from the show. I wonder if the moss in the container I brought her home in was oversaturated and dirty? It was about a 1 hour drive home. Not sure how it happened, my main concern now is to heal my sweet little girl!

    Will,
Just keep a real close eye on her.
If you should see blood on the paper towel in the hospital tank.
I would consider the herp vet?
As well as, if you should see the reddened area extend to the rest of her feet , enlarge, swell, or move up her leg , do the same.
    Lynn

As for the tea for a whites. ???? I have never had a whites.
My experience using it was w/ a red eyed tree frog.
So, I am not sure ???

Well I got my girl into her hospital tank last night and did the Camomile drops. I hope it helps her. It kills me seeing her all freaked! She freaked out really bad just moving her to the hospital tank so I can only imagine how it would have been if I had to do soaks with her. Now its the waiting game!

    Thank you again Lynn!

    Will,
Does the hospital tank fit into her regular tank? Include a plant or plant branch next to her soaking dish inside the hospital tank!
You could cover 3 sides of the H tank with something dark- it might make her feel safer.
If the spots are noticeably smaller , even as early as tomorrow, I would think she could go back in her regular tank?
Smaller would be good !!!!! meaning little bit of bruising ( ? bleeding ) is re-absorbing.

I hope in gets better right away !
You know not to handle her unless it is absolutely necessary .
Keep things really quite around her it will help reduce additional stress
Change the paper towel in the tank ONLY when she is sleeping.
Get everything ready prior , so yo can get in and out as quickly as possible.

I actually had a 10 Gallon that I just bought for other reasons so I turned it into a vertical tank since it was avaiable. Is that too big? It is pretty empty with exception of a fake plant for hiding a water dish and the paper towels. I have covered 3 of the 4 sides.

The tank is in a spare bedroom away from everything so there is nothing to interupt sleep or awake time.

The good part is so far I have not seen any blood what so ever so that could be a plus!

The only time I have ever held her was when I was moving her from her tank to the hospital tank. I never even touched her when I brought her home. I opened the cup they sent her home in and set it in her tank and let her come out on her own to cut down on the stress since it seems like RETF seem to stress easier then my chubby little whites!

I had the tank setup completely when I moved her into it and closed the door then I waited for her to fall asleep did the Camomile drop, through in 2 crickets and left her alone till this morning.

Now one question for you Lynn, while she is in the hospital tank what should I keep the humidity at? I have heard that the higher the humidity the more chance for infection due to bacteria growth. Is this true? Should I set the humidity lower to try and avoid infection?

I would keep T & H everything as close to her regular tank as possible.
NO, I don't think 10 is too big.
The only consideration for a smaller one would be if you had to curtail her climbing.
I would not move her again.
How does the red area look today - any smaller?

    Did she eat her crickets?
Don't be afraid to feed her well.
Simply remove the uneaten food in the AM after she goes back to sleep- put them back to the cricket bin to gut load.
I keep a separate small glass bowl in my cricket bin for those crickets that are 'gut-loading' for the next night ( littler buggers!!!!)

Nah she did not eat, I do not think she moved at all last night. She appeared to be in the same exact spot this moring as she was last night after the move. I have a feeling she was a little stressed after the move. Hopefully she will be up and about tonight! I did remove the Crickets this AM and will replace them when I get home from work. I was not able to look at the red spot this morning, she was tucked into an area that I could not see her feet. Thats why I really hope she is up and about tonight so I can get a peak at her feet and see how they look!

No sell on the eating front. So we are on 48 hours without eating. Luckily the night I brought her home and the night after she ate like a little pig so she has a little weight to her. I do not think she has woke up since introducing her to the hospital tank. That is driving me nuts because she is still in the spot where I cannot see her feet to see how the healing is going. On the same note however, if she has not moved and I am able to give her the drops and she is sleeping hopefully that will improve the healing time!

I have been following your post and soaking up the info just in case I run into a similar spot in the future. Since I have not run into the issue you are experiencing, I have been trying to leave your thread to those that actually have beneficial information. I have been pulling for your little guy.

OK so a quick status update. My little girl finally moved allowing me to see her feet. I think that there has been progress in the healing of her little feet.

Also she ate about 4 Crickets and left me a little gift to clean up! So far so good, but I am not going to say I am in the clear yet, but atleast I feel like I am headed in the right direction!

It looks like those sots are healing nicely! She may have not eaten before cuse it hurt to jump and land on those feet but now there healing she's probably famished. I'd say her eating and pooing is a WONDERFUL sign. Keep up the treatment and watch those feet. Once there fully healed she can probably go back to her normal home but I'd keep a close eye on her once you do just in case she does whatever she did in the first place again.

But I'd say your doing an amazing job with her!

I have to say that I am really impressed with her progress! I am hoping that I can have her back in her little home within the next 3-5 days.

I really owe a lot of thanks to you and Lynn for your help and support.
