I guess I have to consider what you've just said Bobby.

Is it ok If I change their substrate on a monthly basis or Is it too stressful for them? Honestly, I don't wait for them to get smelly to consider changing their substrate.I clean them almost regularly every month thinking that there may already be a lot of pathogens lurking under my frog's enclosure.

Every 1-2 months is fine (or if the dirt is 'muddy' or smells as previously stated); they won't get stressed out from that. They won't like it when they have to get moved out to get their habitat cleaned, but I always just soak mine in a tub of water and he seems to enjoy it.
