I was wondering if I could use my well water.. PH is 7.6 and my dechlor I use for the fish get's rid of heavy metals. I will be buying an RO unit, so that would be my two options. Which would be best?

    Hi Scotty,
I also have well water with a slightly higher PH of 7.8.
I have been using this water without any problems for 2 years, but like you said, you do need a dechlor that neutralizes heavy metals. I use a product called stress coat, and also a product called reptisafe by zoomed. The reptisafe lowers the PH slightly, which is why I use it, but it does not neutralize heavy metals like the stress coat....
Also, be aware that there has been discussion in the past about the stress coat, as it is not for frogs specifically. but I know of other members that use the product without problems.

I personally believe that if you're able, you should test your well water and make sure there is no living bacteria in the water, as the water treatments don't rid bacteria. I personally filter my well water with a britta filter before I treat it and then use it, don't know if that helps or not, but that's just what my routine is.

It's my understanding that RO water is lacking the minerals that are needed by the frogs and that it should not be used except for misting.

I live in the country, and all we have is well water. I use a Pur water filter, and treat it with a water conditioner for my frog and lizard. Is that sufficient?

That is fine Deborah ! If you also use it for spraying and get water spots on glass, try getting distilled water at supermarket for spraying duties (not for frog's bath).
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !

I use bottled water for my reptiles as the tap water is chronic, that full o chemicals that you can smell it as soon as you run the tap. Even with water conditioner i still wouldnt trust it. not sure if this will be ok for the Dart frogs when I get them

I would agree that bottled water would be the safe way but tap water in my area
is much safer without the heavy chemicals but i always use dechlorinator just in case.
Ive read that RO water and distilled water would kill the frog by the salts inside the frog
    would pison the chubb.

i have gray tree frogs that make a mess on glass so i use a micro-fiber cleaning pad that is only for cleaning tanks without chemicals and that helps alot some times when tougher dirt i spray it then scrub it.

There are reports that indicate bottled water is not necessarily safer than tap water. Another issue about bottled water is its impact on environment. There has been campaign regarding bottled water ban. Concord, Mass. was the first city in the U.S. that approved the regulation, as the town wants to reduce Dasani bottles in dumps. View the article here: Bottled water ban.

There's another source and that's filtered watered,,like with a brita....it filters out chlorine and 96% of the pharmaceuticals found in water...I also let it sit for 3-5 days on top of it...

What is your question about "Fiji artesian bottled water" ?

De-chlorinated tap water should be used for most frogs for their water dishes
It is imperative this is understood

    I use this product:
    https://www.google.com/shopping/prod...w&ved=0CGoQuiQ

Aquatize / Exo-TerraThe chemical treatment of tap water, which makes it suitable for human consumption, leaves toxic residues of chlorine and chloramine in the water. Minute traces of toxic metals also make tap water unsafe to reptiles and amphibians. Always treat tap water with Aquatize terrarium water conditioner. Aquatize contains plant extracts to stimulate natural slime coat development in amphibians and fish. Essential oils in these extracts promote shedding in reptiles and maintain scales and skin tissue in optimal health. * Makes tap water safe * For healthier terrarium water conditions * Removes Chlorine & Chloramine * Neutralizes heavy metals * Detoxifies * Stimulates slime coat development in amphibians & fish Shedding aid.

Distilled water can be use for cleaning the glass as it will not cause water spots ( has no minerals) Most frogs CAN NOT tolerate this long term.

Aquatize is 6$ -- it lasts for a very long time. It treat many, many gallons of water.
Several drops /gallon of tap water /takes a second to make.

    VS

Paying for water and using Aquatize in anyway

If there is a temptation to use a store bought 'drinking water' product---call ---ask them if the contains 'chloraimes or any heavy metals'.

John, may I copy and post this on a facebook page about plants. Members there frequently ask about types of water and yours is the best description.

I use spring for the water pool and if I am adding water to the plants.

I only use distilled for misting to eliminate any water deposits. 6 years and the glass is still crystal clear. Just have to rinse off the occasional powder that a feeder leaves behind.

I don't use spring water anymore because my vet said there can be parasites in it. She told me Purified Drinking Water was good and Aquafina so that's all I'm using anymore. I used to use spring water until she talked me out of it.

I am with you distilled water is good for misting and foggers
