Possible Firebelly community.

I understand the potential problems of mixing frogs with other reptiles and amphibians. However, what if I were to engage in a sort of semi-aquatic aquarium with peaceful fish for the firebellies, what are the risks and potential success of such a venture?

I am hoping to mix several firebellies with tetras and similar fish in a 20 gallon. Do note, I have not done so.

I have kept white cloud minnows in with my five firebelly toads for years with no ill effects on either the fish or the toads . My fish have actually spawned several times in this setup. I know some people do not suggest mixing fish and toads, but I have had nothing but good luck with mine.

It is not suggested to mix species just for the safety of each animal. However, I don't really think mixing Firebellies with fish is all that bad. I have a friend who keeps a Betta & several guppies in with her Fire Belly Toads.

If the fish are too small some fire bellies may eat them... Or try to. Mine went after a fighting fish and it was large. After that I added some guppies... They disappeared.

How easy is it for the firebellies to catch them? How long did the fishes last?

I'm wondering if a steady supply of food that is easily caught sufficient to keep the frogs full will dissuade them from catching the fish.

The set up I'm hoping to adopt will be made from a series of driftwood islands, heavily planted and a shallow water sort of platform for the firebellies to stray onto.

I personally would not put a betta in with firebellies. I have only had white cloud minnows in with mine. They are a pretty fast fish. My firebellies are fed every other day, so they are not interested in making the fish a snack. Below is a pic of my setup. There is about 10 gallons of water and 6 white cloud at the moment. I have an extra 10 gallon tank setup for excess babies if/when I need to move them.

My fish lasted about 4 days. Of course the fish I had were slow, small, and easy targets in the shallow water. You should be fine if you get nice sized, fast fish. I don't see why adding them would be a problem if the FBTs can't eat them.
