Welcome, you came to the right place! As far as what type of frog, I am not sure what kind of frogs you can keep in NZ. I would say a White's but I recall a member on here from NZ stating that you are unable to get that frog in NZ. There are quite a few Aussie/NZ members on the forum that can definitely lend a hand though. '

Edit: after a quick search I found this information.

Brown tree frogs (Litoria ewingii), Southern Bell frog (Litoria raniformis), Golden Bell frog (Litoria aurea), axolotls (Ambystoma tigrinum), Fire-bellied newts (Cynops pyrrhogatser and Cynops orientalis). It is against the law to keep any of the native frogs. There are a few people in New Zealand who are allowed to keep native frogs, but these people are native frog specialists who DOC has given a permit to.

You must not release axolotls or newts into the wild, as they are not found naturally in New Zealand and could cause big environmental problems if they become wild. Also, it is important not to let any pet frogs or tadpoles back into the wild, because they can spread diseases that they may have picked up in captivity to other wild frogs.

    Hi welcome to the forum.
We can keep 3 species in NZ and that's it, we can have the:
(my favourite) Green and Golden Bell frog (Litoria aurea)
    Southern Bell frog (Litoria raniformis)
Brown Tree frog/Whistling Tree frog (Litoria ewingii)

All are native to Australia, all are tree frogs and are incredibly easy to look after.
They just need a water area (IMO Green and Golden Bell frogs need a big water area, as mine swim all the time) They need plants, I use Bird's nest ferns and Brazillian ferns they are just so easy to look after just spray with water every couple of days. Water is a big debate in the frog world I just catch rain water in a plastic container and store it in a cool dark area as rain water is what they would get in the wild. Don't use tap water as the heavy metals in it kill frogs. For the soil only use organic compost with no added stuff as fertiliser etc is poisonous to frogs. They like to climb so give them plenty of climbing spaces and they need stuff to hide under as they like to hide.
Any questions feel free to ask or PM me.
    Thanks Luke
