When I feel the back of it it feels warm but not like hot or anything. I'm not sure how these things work because I've never used one. I put an incandescent bulb in the light to generate some more heat today but I would really like a better alternative to that. Do you think the heater got damaged when I transferred it from under the tank to the side or is it just not working as effectively due to heat loss from the back? Sorry if I'm rambling a bit. I'm just worried that poor little Hypnotoad is going to get too chilly!
They don't get quite as hot as people think they do. A lot of them are designed to prevent burning of your pets. This is the safest way to place it on your tank. You can buy a second UTH and place it on the same side as the other and have 2 of them running to assist with the heat Like Heatheranne does. Sometimes it is best to use an incandescent bulb though if you cannot achieve the correct temp.
