I have a Yellow Eyed Tree Frog and a Black Eyed Tree frog sharing a tank. I was looking at redoing their tank and giving them a large water area with a waterfall on the background. I am going to add live plants to the background.
I have heard from people that these frogs can interbreed. I do not want this to occur. They have been living together for a long time, but I am afraid if I change their habitat that they may breed.
Thank you everyone for your help.
Most tree frogs need to have a simulated "year" in order to breed. You'd need several months of warm, then several months of cold (depending on the species this could mean different things so I'd consult an expert on this type), and some need a special rain chamber.
I dont think that just changing up there enclosure would cuase them to breed. And if you've had them together for a while and there has been no issues then I dont see why you couldn't keep them together.

Yes, a hybrib between A. annae and moreletii have been bred and documented, and these two appears to be very similiar, scientific-wise. They will most probably not start to reproduce all of a sudden, unleas you simulate a dry season followed by rain season, so the interbred risk is low. However, you can always discuss the community-housing of different species.
So is the hybrid a named species?
Hybrids aren't given scientific names if they're known to be hybrids, unless there's something odd going on with their reproduction (most parthenogenic lizards originated from hybridization, and there are hybridogenic frogs). Generally, the only named hybrids were discovered and named before it was realized they were merely hybrids.
Frognerd,
Good read !!
