I just started 2 cultures today off the 2 that i got from Josh's. Pretty simple. Add media, add water, add excelsior, and let nature run its course.

I do mine outside in case i get any escapees while transferring flies from one cup to the other

Does the stuff that you need to add come with it? How long do these cultures last

look on joshsfrogs.com at the fruit fly kits. You can get kits that come with everything you need

    Cups with lids
    media
    excelsior
    herptivite
    calcium
and flies to start your cultures or feed from

Its recommended you toss out a culture after 4 weeks. Typical practice is to start a culture or two once a week so that you always have flies on hand should one of your cultures happen to crash

May I suggest you search the site for FF topics as this would help you learn and prepare to culture them. Here is a link for a how to article right here on the forum.
